T3 Reviews : The Last Mughal by William Dalrymple

 The Last Mughal: The Fall of a Dynasty, Delhi 1857 is a historical non fiction book. It creates a beautiful backdrop of a pulsating city with political , religious and familial struggles and intrigue. It potrays Bahadur Shah Zafar as a poet king who above all else prized religious tolerance and peace this is highlighted by an incident which may have led to potential cow slaughter but for the timely and effective actions of the Mughal king which is recorded to be the only time in his brief revolutionary reign he acted without being prompted and decisively.

Of course as all histories of the 1857 rebellion end with defeat this one concludes with Bahadur Shah Zafar's exile to Rangoon alongwith his family while discussing the illegality of the bloodthirsty British actions against the city of Delhi and the Mughal monarch.

Well written and great exploration of this period , it has also used the "Mutiny Papers" portraying the Indian version of the uprising.

There are a few changes to the lore or nature of magic in the story but they don't become apparent until much later in the book.So you can read using the original HP books as a base. Here Petunia was give the beauty potion by Lily and as a result married a professor at oxford instead. Harry was adopted by them and grew up to be the most ravenclaw person I have seen. Yes, that means bookworm.... Harry as a bookworm interests me because I myself am one!   Also it takes place in Harry's first year just like the philosopher's throne. T3 Reviews: Duel with the Devil (A Hamilton and Burr team up Murder mystery)

 The book sets out the facts pretty well and the Hamilton and Burr team up seems suprising until it isn't but what let me down was the fact that there isn't enough intrigue . The narrative is structured in such a way that blame is laid squarely on one individual at the start. The case was like that but we all know the charm of the murder mystery should be the mystery part which emerges towards the end and the story is more of legal maneuvering than mystery solving.  The start also is a bit too long and detailed for my taste , the atmosphere the author tries to create ends up choking us with its excessive detailing. The story seems like it would do better in a smaller book.
